The Black Beauty Edit: Britt Nicole Cosmetics Is the One-Woman Brand You Need on Your Radar
If you've been spending any time on fragrance TikTok lately, there's a good chance The Britt Nicole Cosmetics has already crossed your For You Page. The packaging stopped me mid-scroll. The ombre glass bottles with the rhinestone detail is the kind of glam presentation that makes you want to smell it before you even read the name. Since I have a personal policy about blind-buying fragrances (allergies are not a game), I did what any reasonable person would do: researched the comment section and asked questions to get a feel of the product..
Except Britt Nicole saw it.
What happened next is the kind of thing that doesn't happen with mainstream brands. Britt Nicole Cosmetics were scheduled to be at an open air market that was a few blocks from my friends house. When I saw her post that her brand would be in attendance, I responded to her IG story expressing my excitement. This was a chance to finally smell the oils in person, but as luck would have it, an expected rainstorm cancelled the event out of caution because LA is dramatic. (note: it did NOT rain that day of course.) When I reached out to tell her how disappointed I was and sorry the event was canceled in her comment section, Britt reached out directly. She was opening her office for shop hours and wanted to offer me first dibs on a time slot. I grabbed my friend Priscilla, who had already been rolling with me that day for a birthday fragrance run to The Scent Bar in DTLA and we made it happen.

Who Is Britt Nicole?
Britt Nicole is a small-town girl from York, Pennsylvania with a “lifelong entrepreneurial spirit and, clearly, a big-city vision.” She started sewing at 12 years old and was making custom prom dresses and altering clothes for paying clients by her teens. In 2019, she launched her cosmetic line with one goal in mind and that was to build something unforgettable. She eventually packed up and moved to Los Angeles to bet fully on herself and build a brand that made people feel the most glamourous and powerful version of themselves. Her packaging mimics and is a nod to her love of designing gowns. Attention to detail isn't a marketing point for Britt, it's just how she works.
The Rich Girl Oils: What They Are and Why They Work
The centerpiece of The Britt Nicole Cosmetics is the Rich Girl Oil collection, a line of luxurious body oils, each $33, built around the idea that smelling expensive shouldn't require a designer price tag. The oils are lightweight but scented enough to wear alone but rich enough to anchor a full fragrance layering routine, and the scent throw is genuinely impressive for an indie brand at this price point. They're not so heavy that they overpower whatever you put on top, and not so light that they disappear.
The hero scent of the collection is Rich Girlz Don't Cry, the viral oil that put the brand on the map and the inspiration behind Britt's upcoming debut perfume. If you've seen her on TikTok, this is probably the one in the video. It's the scent that got people talking and starting commenting, which is exactly how I found her in the first place.
When we went to her showroom, we were greeted warmly and with a smile. She took time out to ask me what some of my favorite scents were, what my vibe was and gave me recommendations based on my answers. I don’t even remember how many oils I smelled and played with that day, but I do know I walked out with two and 30minutes later I was wishing I got more.

The Oils, Reviewed
4HEAD KIS$ES was one of my two first picks and I understood why immediately. It's dessert on your skin without being overwhelming. I know, I know, another gourmand, but what can I say? I like what I like! It smells like a soft strawberry caramel scent, but the musk keeps it more adult and less bakery. It’s the kind of scent that makes people lean in and ask what you're wearing without being able to place it.
Notes: Strawberry, Creamy milk, Pink marshmallow, Whipped Vanilla, Warm Caramel, Soft Musk & Soft Woods.
Bonfire S'mores was a scent she suggested I smell. When I heard “bonfire”, I was skeptical until I smelled it. The dry down goes full ooey gooey s'mores which you wouldn’t think works as a scent, but it does! It is warm and complex in a way that reads sophisticated without trying too hard. The moment it dried down on my skin I already knew I was going to layer it with my Commodity Milk. The two together are creamy, smoky, and completely addictive.
Notes: Dark Cocoa Powder, Sugar, Vanilla, Amber, Sandalwood, Cedar & Clove.
Later that same day, Britt posted an IG story headed to restock shelves at ATLAS at Century City Mall, which is her first retail placement. Excitedly, I rushed to let her know which oils I would go and pick up, however, they only carry three of the best sellers; 4Head Kis$es, Bags & Kisses and Rich Girlz Don’t Cry. The scents I still needed weren't there, so she directed me back to her website. I was trying to decide between three when she said one was limited edition and it would not restock, and I was already having trouble deciding between the other two, so naturally all three had to come home. So, I handled it online, and by the end of the week I had five oils total. Rounding out the line up are the following:
Strawberry Kisses (limited edition) is summertime in Los Angeles bottled up for us gourmand lovers. It smells like a tray of fresh summer fruit on top of poundcake. The lemon keeps it from being a strawberry shortcake vibe and gives it more of a sparkling fruit vibe on my skin.
Notes: Sweet Strawberries, Lemon Zest, Sugar Crystals, Fluffy Poundcake, Vanilla & Whipped Cream.
Matcha Latte Mami is one of the scents I should have grabbed at the showroom but didn’t and that was only because I was TRYING to be on a budget. The scent evolves as time passes and I kept smelling my arm where I applied it throughout the day. It reminded me of Kayali’s Freedom Musk Matcha but cleaner. I definitely have plans to layer the two together. Or if you have Le Labo Matcha 26, this creamier matcha scent should pair well without taking over or being taken over. It’s the oil for the person who wants to smell interesting without announcing themselves. I've been reaching for this one on days when I want something soft and unexpected.
Notes: Matcha Green Tea, Frothy Oat Milk & Vanilla Cream.
Vanilla $tacks is layered vanilla done right and I tried to be strong yall. I tried to get scents I normally would not, but vanilla has a hold on me and at this point, I surrender. For some reason to me vanilla scents are like red lipstick; no two are the same. I have yet to find a 1:1 dupe of a vanilla fragrance and if you have please drop them in the comments! It is sweet, warm and cozy, and if you're into building a signature scent rather than wearing a single fragrance, start here.
Notes: Vanilla Sugar, Buttercream, Vanilla Bean, Powdery Musk & Warm Tonka.

What's Coming: His Favorite Ex
Before I left Britt's office that day, she sent me home with samples of her unreleased debut perfume and I have been thinking about it ever since.
His Favorite Ex drops May 16th and is inspired by Rich Girlz Don't Cry, the viral body oil that started it all. The projected price will be $92 USD for 100ml, which sits comfortably in accessible luxury territory and punches well above its price point. The notes are as follows:
Top: Peach blossom, amarena cherry, Juicy pomegranate
Middle: Powder Iris, creamy coconut
Base: Vanilla absolute, soft sandalwood, smoked balsam
I'll have a full feature on His Favorite Ex in the May Beauty Drops, but if you want to be ready when it launches, follow @shopthebrittnicole now so you don't miss the drop.

And One More Thing: She's Going for $100K!!
While I was putting this post together, Britt reached out with news I wasn't expecting. She secretly applied to 60 Day Hustle, a small business competition coming to Amazon Prime and out of hundreds of applicants, she made it to the last 30. Now it comes down to public voting. The show's Instagram page will be posting her brand story and voting runs May 11th–18th. Only 12 brands make it onto the show, and one of them could walk away with $100,000!!!
I'll drop the voting link the moment it goes live. In the meantime, follow the show and follow @shopthebrittnicole so you don't miss it when it posts. This woman handmakes every product in her LA workroom, is dropping her debut perfume on May 16th, and is now one public vote away from a national platform. Go root for her!!!
