Black Girl Sunscreen Is My New Go To Sunscreen

I was running around getting ready to head to Cancun for vacation Aa few weeks ago and I was in need of SPF. I needed some mainly for my face because I was running low, and I wasn’t particularly in love with the current one I was using. SPF shouldn’t be hard to find, but for a black girl it is. Will it dry with that ugly white cast? Willi t be chalky? Will it even protect my melanin? See, when you are a black girl with melanin, you can’t just use any ole sunscreen or else you will be caught looking a mess in these streets and I was not trying to look casket ready. The current sunscreen I was using was ok, but I felt that I had to do too much in order for it to work for me.

The standard for sunscreen is the 2-finger rule, so imagine how much rubbing in needs to be done in order for there to be zero white cast? I grabbed a few samples from Sephora of some popular brands that had “tinted” SPF and gave those a try in the weeks leading up to my vacation and I was completely unsatisfied.  A week before I was heading out, I was at target getting some toiletries and I saw a bottle labeled Black Girl Sunscreen for face and body. I was skeptical but for the price point of $15 it was worth a try and if it didn’t work for my face, I could easily use it on my body for the trip.

The next day I decided to give it a try and I was blown away. Not only did it seamlessly absorb into my skin it looked like lotion. Zero cast or even a hint that I had on sunscreen! I texted my friend and told her to go to target after work and pick up this sunscreen because she needed it for our trip. It dries completely clear and can easily be worn under makeup. It is reef safe, vegan and cruelty free and made by women of color FOR women of color. Many brands try and cater to melanin skin by adding a tint, but it quite frankly doesn’t hit the same. It gives those who lack melanin a bronzy glow while it gives us a grey tint that makes us look like the walking dead.
