So, I Got a Chemical Peel: Benefits, Recovery, and Glowing Skin Results
Nothing excites me more than over the top skincare indulgences. Blame my mother for this habit, I got it honestly. A chemical peel is something I have been wanting to try forever, so when the opportunity presented itself, I jumped at the chance. I had a week off, a canceled vacation and nothing but time to peel so I made an appointment.
I decided to go to Faces of Jules and try the Perfect Dermapeel. It is a medium grade perfect for first timers such as myself. I made the appointment first thing on a Saturday morning so I could start the peel process right away. When I called to schedule the peel a month in advance, I was told for this peel, no prep was necessary, just no retinoids or exfoliants 2 days before. Their customer service was excellent, and I was able to ask any random question that came to mind within the month leading up to my appointment date.
When I arrived, I was greeted by Bree, who would also be the one facilitating the peel. The smell of gardenia candles filled the air as I was shown to my room. I got changed and comfortable and soon we got started.
We first discussed my skin, and I expressed my concerns and frustrations. Bree explained to me the importance of gut health as well as narrowing down a solid routine. Once we got started the process was pretty simple and smooth. The peel was added in 2 layers which smelled weird, but I felt no burn, itching, just a slight tingle the first minute or so. I was given instruction to not wash my face until the morning and was given a kit to take home.
The kit contained two towelettes, cleanser, moisturizer, and SPF. I was either given the option to wash my face later the same night as the peel (since my appointment was so early in the morning) or the next morning to maximum results. Of course, I chose the next morning because over achiever. I started peeling the evening of day two around the mouth area because obviously, I talk too much. Zero pain however, the night of day two I woke up about 3am itching like I have never itched before. Like turned on my bedroom light to find the moisturizer and hydrocortisone cream. By the morning, it was time to start cutting the access skin with small scissors I found at target.
Overall, the peel process was amazing. The experience at Faces of Jules was relaxing and informative. My favorite thing about it was I felt comfortable enough to ask questions and I did not get what I wanted, I got what I NEEDED. Bree was not going to give me what I wanted because it was not in my skins best interest. I wanted a booster, and she put a hard stop to that, especially for my very first peel. I can not wait to go back, I have a DMK Enzyme facial scheduled for August!
