Fenty Hair Review: Rihanna's Haircare Line Worth the Hype or Nah?
Let me be real – if Rihanna dropped a line of spoons, I’d probably buy them and then review them for you while eating cereal. But this time, we’re talking about Fenty Hair. Yes, the queen of all things fierce, fab, and Fenty has decided to bless our tresses with her magic touch, and I couldn’t wait to try it. I had to wait to review this product because she announced it the day after I got my hair braided, but the review is finally here. I picked up The Maintenance Crew and put it to the test the moment I took these braids out, which mean I’m putting mama to WORK!
Buckle up, buttercups, because this review is about to be more honest than your grandma after her third glass of wine at Thanksgiving dinner. So, let’s see if this line is really worth the hype or just a really expensive way to moisturize your bathroom shelves. I've put my hair on the line to test these products, and I'm ready to tell you if Fenty Hair is the real deal or just another celebrity cash grab. So, grab your combs and let's get ready to untangle this hairy situation!
The Rich One Moisture Repair Shampoo:
I was skeptical at first because the shampoo is light in texture but a little goes a long way. My hair sucks up water so I assumed I would use at least half the bottle. Half a palm size did the trick, and I was impressed, especially with the lather. I was impressed at FIRST, until it was time to add the conditioner. My hair was SO tangled, and I was slightly confused because one of the key benefits of the shampoo was improves detangling and smooth frizz. I will report back after I wash it next week and my hair has been flat ironed for a week. Since I am a braid queen, I don’t think I would rebuy this shampoo just yet. On one hand, I was an hour out of braids, and although my hair was 100% combed out, it tangled bad. On the other hand, it might work better since my hair has been more manageable this week with heat; but do I REALLY want to rebuy a shampoo that tangles my hair fresh out of my protective style since that IS my style? As of now I would rate this product a C and I would not repurchase. I love Rih but my hair talks back, and I have had shampoos that cost half the price work better.
The Richer One Moisture Repair Deep Conditioner:
Since I had a struggle with the shampoo, I feel like the conditioner had to work overtime since it claims to quickly detangle. Yeah, ok. I used a ton of product simply trying to detangle my hair, so I am still unsure if the shampoo was that bad for my first time, or the conditioner was just ok. As previously stated, there is the caveat that I just took down small individual knotless braids, but again, my hair was completely combed out; this ain’t my first rodeo. I did eventually detangle my hair, but it was more work than I was anticipating, since the shampoo and conditioner is supposed to detangle. I did like it overall, but it was not life changing. I would rate it a B-. Would I try it again? Yes, I would, but I didn’t fall in love with it. Next week I will try the Comeback Kid instead of this and report back, so come back for an update!
The Protective Type 5-in-1 Heat Protectant Styling Cream:
THE STAR OF THE SHOW! Listen, this product did everything it promised to do and then some. It detangled my hair in 6 minutes. I mean sectioned, combed through and everything. The texture was light, and it felt weightless. I normally use Aunt Jackie’s Knot on My Watch and have for years. She has been dethroned; I fear. I used less product, and it detangled in half the time. When I blow dried my hair it still felt light as if I had nothing on it. In the past my hair did have a slight texture like it felt like I had a leave o of some sort. Not with this product. I rate this product an A+ and will definitely repurchase and make it a staple in my routine.
So, there you have it. After giving Fenty Hair a whirl, my locks and I have thoughts. For me, I would skip the shampoo, think twice about the Richer One Conditioner and The Protective Type in bulk if possible. If you’ve learned anything from this, it’s that I’ll always keep it real with you and Rihanna might be a literal goddess, but even the best need feedback, right? Whether you’re ready to run to Sephora or leave this one in your online cart for later, you now know what’s up. Remember, just because Rihanna can make us feel like the "Only Girl (In the World)," it doesn't mean her hair products will work magic on everyone's mane. But hey, at least we can say we gave it a shot, right? Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll be over here waiting for Fenty Air Freshener. Because why not? Until next time, may your hair be shiny, your scalp moisturized, and your wallet intact... or at least less damaged.
