Disneyland Halts Opening
Disney and the State of California has decided to push back the opening of Disneyland and California Adventure and have mixed emotions. Safety is always number one and with numbers on the rise, this seems like a no brainer. One life is definitely not worth a ride on the Matterhorn and I applaud Disney and officials for making the correct choice. This virus is so uncertain that public safety should be at the forefront of everyone’s mind, especially during a global pandemic. Cast Members and their families should be top priority not the profit margin and one thing is for sure, Disney will make this money back and then some.
As a Disneyland junkie I am bummed. Disney was my home away from home. My weekly escape from the hectic day to day. No matter how bad your day has been, pulling into the parking structure makes it all better. I want more than anything to escape all of this political and doomsday talk by putting my phone on DND and eating a churro on Haunted Mansion. Where does one go to escape when her safe place is closed? There is only so much Disney+ I can watch until it makes me miss the parks even more. Being a 10 year passholder I find that there has to be a lesson here. Take nothing for granted. I was one of those that would just drive up there for a churro and fireworks. Dinner with friends. A new spirit jersey. I kept Disneyland in my back pocket like a trinket I can take out and play with whenever I saw fit because that is what I was used to doing. Now it is gone.
For Disney and the state of California to make this decision lets you know how serious this pandemic is and how much they genuinely care about their guest, cast members and passholders. Safety is the most important thing in the world right now, and I am glad that Disneyland and California are doing everything they can to ensure that when they do open back up, it will be an enjoyable time for all. Wash your hands, wear a mask and practice social distancing. The goal should be to get rid of the virus, not find a way to live with it.
